How Does Verified Audio Intrusion Work?

Broken_GLASSA crime is in progress.  It’s your business that has been targeted. The audio sensors have been triggered by the sound of glass breaking and hushed conversations.  But unknown to the would-be thieves, the Police have already been dispatched ... before they find anything to steal.  On average Police will arrive within 3.5 minutes – and capture the thieves.

This security system process is smooth and very effective.  An audio sensor is triggered, our expert operators verify that the alarm is real and the Police are dispatched immediately.  It seems simple.  But how does it actually work?

Audio Intrusion Detection System

Sonitrol’s verified audio intrusion detection system is unique in the marketplace.  It’s a powerful addition to your security system because, unlike conventional alarms, it is sound-based, not motion-based.

Motion-based alarms on their own are not as good at catching criminals.  They can be easily beaten and are susceptible to high false alarm rates because they are not verified.  When an audio intrusion detection system alarm is triggered, our central monitoring station can actually listen-in to determine whether a break-in is in progress or if a false alarm has occurred.

How Does it Work?

We begin the process by identifying areas to place the audio sensors and identifying ambient sounds.  Audio sensors can give you 100% coverage of your business, floor to ceiling. This is unique compared to conventional motion alarms, which have limited coverage (15’ x 8’) and often lead to delayed Police response or no police response in communities that have a verified only response ordinance.

Conventional alarms often consist of motion sensors that detect movement at popular entry points such as doors, windows and in the aisles of inventory and goods.  But what about the increasingly popular entry points, such as the roof or ceiling? Or even between walls through the drywall?

What’s worse … professional criminals have learned how to beat motion sensors by blocking motions, identifying blind spots, moving slowly, or staying close to the ground or above the motion.

Therefore to have a good security system you will need 100% coverage that cannot be easily bypassed.

You need Sonitrol’s Verified Audio Intrusion technology.

When our Audio Intrusion system is activated, here’s what happens:

  • The system immediately transmits the sounds of the break-in attempt prior to the thieves gaining entry to your facility and identify the specific location of the activated audio sensor to our central monitoring station.  There is no delay.

  • Professional operators listen silently to live audio from your facility.  Trained operators are on duty 24/7 to determine and verify the nature of all sounds that are triggered and activated.

  • If they can hear a crime is in progress, our skilled operators dispatch the Police immediately.  If it is a false alarm, our operators simply reset the system.

  • If a break-in has occurred, Police will respond quickly, and with proper resources (General Duty, K9, Air Support) as they know Sonitrol calls for service are REAL….. not 98% false like conventional alarms. Our operators stay on the line with Police dispatch to relay important information, including how many thieves or vandals are inside your business and where they are located.

Most importantly criminals know who Sonitrol is as we have assisted Police with the apprehension of over 170,000 criminals since 1977.  Criminals know to stay away from Sonitrol protected sites as it is way easier and fair less risky to break into a conventionally protected facility than a Sonitrol facility.  Deterrence is actually what you want…..

The ability to verify each audio activation is key to our success.

Sonitrol’s verified audio intrusion detection system goes beyond the status quo in the security industry and it’s one of the most powerful security tools you can add to protecting your business.
