Restaurant and Franchise Security Systems, Complete Security Solution by Sonitrol

The competitor down the street is not the only threat to your business. Your restaurant is vulnerable to vandalism, break-ins, hold-ups, employee theft, and even freezer failures. Protecting your assets and inventory from these types of threats is not easy, so we've come up with a few tips to help you improve your restaurant, bar, or lounge security.Whether you own a high-volume club/ lounge, a chain of family-themed restaurant, or a 5-star fine-dining establishment, you will want to make sure your security is up to par - but also tailored to fit your specific needs.

1. Controlled Access

A base-level lock and key for entry points may not be sufficient for your needs. Keys are susceptible to loss, theft, and copying. Locks are easily compromised by picking or bumping. A more secure solution is having keyless controlled access at your entry points as well as any secure areas. This allows you to strictly control which employees have access to which areas and when.

2. Secure Valuable Inventory

Valuable or high-priced items like certain food, liquor, and cash, should be stored in a separate secure area - also with controlled access.

3. Sufficient Lighting

Dark or insufficiently lit areas in or around your restaurant will present an opportunity for theft, vandalism, and break-ins. Having external lights especially can help deter any criminal activity from taking place.

4. Secure Any Outdoor Assets

If you have outdoor furniture or storage, make sure these items and areas are secured and monitored as well.

5. CCTV & Alarm Systems

Install a high-quality verified alarm and CCTV system, such as Sonitrol's Security Systems. These not only deter thieves, but if a break-in or theft DOES take place, you can ensure that police will be dispatched swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators. CCTV can also deter employee theft, dine-and-dashers, and violent situations like bar-fights.

6. Implement Employee Training

It's important that you make sure employees are properly trained from the start. They should be familiar with your security procedures, systems, and policies. They should be trained in what to do in the case of a hold-up or other emergency. They should also have a way to anonymously report theft or inventory shrink.

There are a few things to consider when you are deciding on a security solution for your restaurant:

What type of restaurant are you?

Your security needs will be different if you are a busy lounge/club or a 5-star dining establishment. Some types of restaurants might be more frequently targeted when thieves assume they are busier and therefore have more cash on hand.

How large is your restaurant?

The actual square footage will play a part in how vulnerable you are. Do you have areas that are not frequented by employees or in a blind spot which presents a theft or break-in opportunity? If so, you will need to adjust your security needs accordingly.

How many employees are there at any given time?

The more employees you have, the less opportunity you provide for break-ins and internal theft. If your restaurant doesn't have a large amount of employees, you may need more CCTV options to eliminate blind-spots.

Do you own a stand-alone building?

If you are leasing a property in a mall or attached to a larger building, you security solution will be different than if you have a separated building with an entire perimeter that you need to secure.

Are you in a high-risk area?

Is your neighbourhood at high risk for theft, break-ins, or hold ups? If so, you might consider a more thorough / comprehensive approach to your security.

What sort of cash handling procedures do you have?

Is there one designated spot for handling and processing cash or is there multiple registers? You might need to place more CCTV's or panic buttons to protect these vulnerable areas.

What are your remote monitoring requirements?

Do you need to have access to CCTV feeds to monitor your restaurant and employees remotely?

What does your Insurance company require?

Many insurance companies will outline the specific minimum requirements for security and alarm systems. Make sure you are familiar with these policies.

CCTV - We can monitor movement indoors and outdoors with security cameras. This deters internal theft, damage or destruction of property, and discourages vandalism.

Sound Based Alarms - Sonitrol alarms are sound-based — not motion-based — so we are able to hear a break-in in progress and report live details to the responding police. T

Panic Buttons - In addition to perimeter protection and break-in detection, our intrusion system also includes strategically placed hold-up alarms or panic buttons to help protect employees and patrons in the event of a robbery.

Freezer/Cooler Monitoring - We protect your valuable inventory from unanticipated damage, with technology that allows you to monitor cooler and freezer temperatures 24/7, alerting you immediately of any rise in temperature.

Controlled Access - Easy-to-use expandable technology allows you to track and control entry to your facility and sensitive areas, such as liquor, food, and cash storage areas.
